After having been frustrated when this final book in the Alvin Maker series vanished from Orson Scott Card's in progress list on Hatrack River more than a dozen years ago, I saw that there was some mention that he had begun sharing some pieces of Master Alvin as private previews within his On The Fly paid subscription list (back in the middle of 2021), and this has me daring to hope again.

That's the last I've heard of it, but I'm officially crossing my fingers and toes for this one, as it's up near the top of my list of books I've been waiting for (and may, possibly, be right at the very top of it). I found this out completely by chance today, as I joined our extended cross-Atlantic family for a chat around a family member's birthday, and my Mum mentioned that she'd started re-reading the Alvin Maker books again--so I took the time to check and see if it is coming, and ran across this detail courtesy of the fine folks of Reddit. And if it finally does appear, then I'll be buying both of us a copy, no doubt.

Those were some of my favorite books as a kid. Looking at the list now, I'm not sure that I'm caught up on what's already published.

I definitely hope it comes out, because I'm eager to see how the series comes to completion.

If you are in difficulties with a book, try the element of surprise: attack it at an hour when it isn't expecting it. ~ H.G. Wells
If a person offend you, and you are in doubt as to whether it was intentional or not, do not resort to extreme measures; simply watch your chance and hit him with a brick. ~ Mark Twain

Somehow I still have a file of old calendar reminders which this post inspired me to check.  It contains a note that at 7 pm on November 13, 2003, I went to have Orson Scott Card sign my pre-ordered copy of Crystal City at the Santa Clara Barnes and Noble.  I can't believe I've been waiting 18+ years for a book.

@chwalter 18 years? Well great, now my back aches again, and I feel the need to complain about teenagers.

The last comments were ten months ago, now--at the time, he had been sharing pieces from the work having begun writing it, and just that much alone feels really promising to me. It's no guarantee of completion, of course, but fingers, toes, and whatever other parts I can persuade to perform such complex manoeuvres, I will cross in hopeful anticipation of it coming to fruition this time around.
